which is the first high level programing language?
The first high-level programming language was Fortran. It was Developed in 1956 by the IBM team headed by John Backes. Fortran Became commercially available in 1957.
Names from earlier versions of the language through Fortran 77 were traditionally written in all capitals (Fortran 77 was the last version in which the use of lowercase letters in keywords was strictly non-standard). The capitalization has been removed with reference to new versions starting with Fortran 90. Official language standards are now referred to as the "Fortran" language rather than the all-cap "Fortran".
Many of its compilers have been written, such as IBM (native), HP, GNU and many more. It cannot write more than 72 characters in a line. There is no semicolon at the end of the line. In this context, it can be compared to languages like C / C ++ which require a semicolon after the instruction is over.
The development of Fortran in the early development of Fortran technology, and many advances in compiler theory and design, were particularly motivated by the need to generate efficient code for Fortran programs.
