The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) records the population size of thousands of threatened species. Their i gures are estimates based on many surveys.

Regional Conservation Body. It is a mixture of direct observation, cameras are found on water holes and draping or claw marks. The most recent i gures, which are from 2011, suggest that there are about 3000 tigers left in the forest.

The tiger has been listed as endangered in the IUCN Red List since 1986. As of 2015, the global wild tiger population was estimated to number between 3,062 and 3,948 mature individuals, down from around 100,000 in the early 20th century, with most remaining populations. Being in a small pocket separates them from each other. Major causes of population decline include habitat destruction, habitat fragmentation, and poaching. This, coupled with the fact that it lives in some of the more densely populated places on Earth, has caused significant conflict with humans.
